By registering for a CSA basket with the Family Farmers Network, you will discover the joy of eating fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits.

Each family farmer’s goal is to provide you with a weekly abundance of variety, choice, freshness and quality. Some farms are equipped with cold or heated greenhouses and/or tunnels, allowing them to extend the growing season for favourites such as tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and peppers.

You may also discover vegetables with which you are less familiar, providing a great opportunity to try new recipes!

To illustrate, here is a list of some of the vegetables you are likely to find in your baskets as the season unfolds.

Early July

Greenhouse tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, snap and/or snow peas, spring onions, pak choi, radishes, summer squash (zucchini et al.)

Late August

Tomatoes, celery, lettuce, summer squash (zucchini et al.), garlic, yellow onions, eggplant, cantaloupe and other melons, beans, sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes, paste tomatoes

Late September

Tomatoes, arugula, cherry tomatoes, nappa cabbage, potatoes, sweet peppers, beans, radishes, garlic, eggplant and a few of the winter vegetables listed below

Late October

Paste tomatoes, winter squash, cherry tomatoes, hot peppers, nappa cabbage, sweet peppers, kohlrabi, carrots, arugula, radishes and many of the winter vegetables listed below

All winter

Garlic, beets, carrots, celeriac, nappa cabbage, ginger, cabbage, winter squash, turnips, shallots, spinach, sprouts, endives, lettuce, kale, mesclun, celery, onions, cucumbers, parsnips, sweet potatoes, rutabaga, potatoes, leeks, microgreens, apples, radishes, Jerusalem artichokes, split peas, dried beans…and apple juice!
