Being part of the Family Farmers Network means subscribing to a shared vision of local organic agriculture. Each season, the farms in the network take on the challenge of diversified market garden production in order to supply their local communities through weekly or biweekly deliveries throughout the harvest season.
organic baskets
Organic baskets generally contain between 6 and 14 items depending on the time of year, primarily vegetables, but also fruits, herbs and sometimes other complementary organic products. Main farms can also collaborate with associate farms in the network to enhance their offering with products such as microgreens, eggs, fruit or lacto-fermented foods...
The model is based on the principles of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): subscribers pay their share of the harvest in advance, in one or several payments, which allows the farm to benefit from greater financial stability. In return, the farm commits to providing quality, diversified harvests in sufficient quantities to meet the expectations of its subscriber group.
The Network grants farms significant autonomy in their production and marketing choices. Each farm remains free to determine:
- the number of subscribers;
- the format and style of baskets (mini-markets, pre-assembled, etc.);
- subscription prices;
- the varieties grown;
- the number of delivery weeks;
- as well as other complementary sales channels, such as public markets or restaurant sales.
The Family Farmers Network is present in 12 regions of Québec and in Acadie through an extensive network of more than 300 delivery points. While the RFF supports the strategic development of new drop-off points, their implementation is done in collaboration with each farm to ensure a coherent and harmonious rollout across the territory.
Finally, joining the Network also means having the opportunity to officially carry the title of family farmer, a recognized designation that reflects a commitment to human-scale, local and sustainable agriculture, as well as a strong sense of belonging to a community of farms that share the same values.
